Make sure you have clear directions on navigating your website. The navigation menu must be neat and concise so that visitors know how to navigate your website without confusion.
Reduce the number of images on your website. They make your site load very slowly and more often they don't need to. If you feel that there is an important image on your site, make sure you optimize it using an image editing program so that it has a minimum file size.
Keep your text paragraphs long enough. If a paragraph is too long, you must divide it into separate paragraphs so that the block of text will not be too large. This is important because text blocks that are too large will prevent visitors from reading your content.
Make sure your website complies with web standards at www.w3.org and make sure they are browser compatible. If your website looks great on Internet Explorer but is badly damaged in Firefox and Opera, you will lose many potential visitors.
Avoid using scripting languages on your site unless absolutely necessary. Use script language to handle or manipulate data, not to create visual effects on your website. Heavy scripts will slow down your site's loading time and even crash some browsers. Also, scripts are not supported in all browsers, so some visitors may lose important information because of that.
